The Villa Leopolda, located on the French Riviera, was estimated for a sale on August 2008 for $750 million, of Lily Safra by the Russian Billionaire Prokhorov who revealed as the mystery buyer of the Villa at that time. However, the Russian mogul lost his deposit on the property when he reneged on completing the sale an amount of $55 million.
Built for King Leopold II of Belgium in 1902, the Belle Époque mansion was used as a summer retreat for the king. The property has since changed hands a couple of times, and its previous owners include the late Giovanni Agnelli, of the Italian marque Fiat, and Lebanese-born Swiss banker Edmond Safra. The villa has been rumoured to be the home of Bill Gates and many more global figures, including Roman Abramovich.
