The William and Kate Royal Wedding, a statement of confidence in true Heritage Luxury

Horse driven carriages, Rolls Royce, Jaguar and Bentley cars, priceless heritage jewellery, custom made shoes, made to measure suits, impressive British designer hats, British designer wedding dress inspired by Grace Kelly’s wedding dress, the Westminster Abbey and the Buckingham Palace…it’s the fairy tale wedding of Kate Middleton to Prince William, a historic event with an unprecedented international coverage, especially through the internet and television, with hundreds of millions of viewers feeling they actually joined the wedding family in this memorable event.
While an actual stay a The Goring Hotel where the bride stayed the night before the wedding and the rental of the same ballroom at the Mandarin Oriental (venue for the Queen’s pre-wedding dinner) as well as a Bentley or a Rolls Royce limousine are all realistic choices for any commoner to aspire to, for their wedding, none of the other aspects of the Royal Wedding can be replicated, making this the perfect fairy tale which everyone could dream about on draw upon. Many have hailed ” The Monarchy is back !” And in many ways, it has managed a spectacular come back, re-connecting with subjects as well as admirers all over the world. HRH Queen Elisabeth is not only one of the most respected figure in the world but is also the catalyst between generations.
The huge number of youngsters cheering the Royal family on their route between the palaces and Westminster Abbey was probably the most impressive and memorable moment. Most of the young generation did not live the wedding of Lady Diana 30 years ago, but some of them, did attend Princess Diana’s wedding, one of the most dramatic moments in the history of the British monarchy in the past half century. Princess Diana has indefinitely changed the British monarchy and many have even been arguing that the Royal Family will not be able to adapt to the very fast changing times.

The World’s Top-Earning Models

In Detail: The 10 Top-Earning Models

The economic recovery has been good for the world’s top-earning models. With consumers again cautiously spending on luxury goods, the 10 top-earning female models on the planet made a combined $112 million in the 12 months to May–up 30% from a total of $86.5 million over the previous year. Most of this gain was enjoyed by the top three: Gisele Bündchen, Heidi Klum and Kate Moss. The trio have transformed themselves from supermodels to business moguls, stepping off the runway and into the role of designers, entrepreneurs and pop icons.
Bündchen is an unparalleled force within the fashion industry and a brand name herself. Last month she got a shout-out in an unlikely forum: the third-quarter earnings call of Procter & Gamble. Why? P&G’s Pantene shampoo sales exploded 40% in Latin America after Bündchen started slinging the suds.
“Gisele Bündchen is clearly in a class by herself, and has been for a number of years,” says Edward Razek, chief marketing officer of Limited Brands, who worked with the supermodel during her Victoria’s Secret career. “She’s an international icon who can also move product–from shampoo to couture.” The economic impact of a Bündchen-backed campaign has placed her far ahead of her peers, earning the Brazilian bombshell an estimated $45 million over the past 12 months. Her earnings climbed $20 million over the previous year, thanks to an economic boom in her homeland of Brazil coupled with a 10% surge in the value of the Brazilian real against the dollar.

1. Gisele Bündchen $45 million

At age 30, Bündchen is an unparalleled force within the fashion industry.
Since leaving Victoria’s Secret in 2007, Bündchen has gotten married and become a mother, but she has yet to slow down. Bündchen remains the face of numerous campaigns and endorsement deals throughout the United States, Europe, Asia and Latin America. From H&M to Dior to Versace, she stands behind brands that represent both luxury and affordability. Her selling power is quantifiable: Bündchen’s endorsement was credited in Procter & Gamble’s most recent quarterly earnings call for helping to increase Pantene’s sale in Brazil by 40%. Her most lucrative deals go beyond modeling: She earns a percentage of sales from the Ipanema flipflops bearing her name, which today rival Brazil’s well-known Havaianas brand. To top it off, most of Bündchen’s paychecks are paid in euros and Brazilian reals, resulting in an increase in earnings as both currencies appreciated against the dollar by double-digit percentages over the last year.

2. Heidi Klum $20 million

Klum continues her transformation from supermodel to business mogul. This fall she ended her 13-year Victoria’s Secret career, but her earnings climbed to $20 million with TV projects, fashion lines and big brand endorsements.
This year Klum struck a deal with activewear company New Balance, creating line of tops, dresses and athletic apparel, dubbed HKNB, that will be sold exclusively on Amazon.com. In October the Project Runway star inked a 20-episode deal for a new show on Lifetime, called Seriously Funny Kids. HerGermany’s Next Top Model continues to dominate the ratings in Deutschland.

3. Kate Moss $13.5 million

Kate Moss is a fashion world double threat, landing rich modeling and designing gigs. Earnings over the last year: $14 million, thanks in part to a lucrative design deal with the U.K.’s TopShop.
Fashion’s onetime bad girl added more than $5 million to her earnings over the last year, thanks to new deals with the likes of Dior, Vogue Eyewear and Cidade Jardim. Other endorsements include Longchamp, David Yurman, Rimmel and YSL.

4. Adriana Lima $8 million

Lima remains a cornerstone of Victoria’s Secret catalogues and catwalks.
Sometimes touted as the world’s sexiest model, the Brazilian recently starred in ads for Spanish luxury brand Loewe. She continues to collaborate with Ricardo Tischi of Givenchy and has become the face of Brazilian fashion brand Forum. She recently inked a deal as a spokeswoman for Megacity by Votsu, a Brazilian social gaming company. Lima is married to basketball player Marko Jaric.

5. Alessandra Ambrosio $5 million

Another Brazilian Victoria’s Secret Angel reigns over the modeling industry.
Ambrosio has become a familiar star in campaigns for Dolce & Gabbana and Moschino. The supermodel recently became the face of Brazilian sportswear brand Colcci together with Ashton Kutcher, shooting a steamy denim ad together. The duo also walked the catwalk during Fashion Week in Sao Paulo. In addition, Ambrosio was chosen to star in Carlos Miele’s international jeans campaign.

6. Daria Werbowy $4.5 million

7. Lara Stone $4.5 million
8. Carolyn Murphy – $4.3 million
9. Natalia Vodianova $4 million
10. Candice Swanepoel – $3 million

Green mega-yachts – Not-so-filthy rich

IN THE world of mega-yachts, with their multiple sun decks, staterooms, jacuzzis, saunas, cinemas and helicopter-landing pads, there might seem little room left for one-upmanship beyond fitting yet more gold-plated taps and a mini-submarine berth. But the modern fashion for greenness has enabled a number of designers to find something new, in the shape of vessels so clean and self-sufficient they might never need refuelling.

The Top10 Billionaires in the World

by Skorpyo

This 25th year of tracking global wealth was one to remember. The 2011 Billionaires List breaks two records: total number of listees (1,210) and combined wealth ($4.5 trillion). This horde surpasses the gross domestic product of Germany, one of only six nations to have fewer billionaires this year.

BRICs led the way: Brazil, Russia, India and China produced 108 of the 214 new names. These four nations are home to one in four members, up from one in 10 five years ago. Before this year only the U.S. had ever produced more than 100 billionaires. China now has 115 and Russia 101. Atop the heap is Mexico’s Carlos Slim Helú, who added $20.5 billion to his fortune, more than any other billionaire. The telecom mogul, who gets 62% of his fortune from America Movil (NYSE: AMX – News), is now worth $74 billion and has pulled far ahead of his two closest rivals. Bill Gates, No. 2, and Warren Buffett, No. 3, both added a more modest $3 billion to their piles and are now worth $56 billion and $50 billion, respectively. Gates, who now gets 70% of his fortune from investments outside of Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT – News), has actually been investing in the Mexican stock market and has holdings in Mexican Coke bottler Femsa and Grupo Televisa (NYSE: TV – News).

While nearly all emerging markets showed solid gains, wealth creation is moving at an especially breakneck speed in Asia-Pacific. The region now has a record 332 billionaires, up from 234 a year ago and 130 at the depth of the financial crisis in 2009. Sizzling stock markets are behind the surge. Three-fourths of Asia’s 105 newcomers get the bulk of their fortunes from stakes in publicly traded companies, 25 of which have been public only since the start of 2010. America’s wealthiest still dominate the global ranks, but the U.S. is losing its grip.

One in three billionaires is an American, down from nearly one out of two a decade ago. It has 10 more than last year but 56 fewer than its 2008 peak. The U.S. is adding new billionaires at a much slower pace; just 6% of its 413 billionaires are new this year compared with 47% of China’s and 30% of Russia’s. Still there are plenty of inspiring newcomers who figured out clever ways to get rich. The most obvious example is the success of Facebook, whose soaring valuation over the past couple of years — based on the most recent institutional round the company is worth $50 billion — has spawned six billionaires. Leading the group is Facebook’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg, whose fortune jumped 238% to $13.5 billion in the past year. Also joining him in the world ranks are his cofounders Eduardo Saverin and Dustin Moskovitz, its first president Sean Parker (played by Justin Timberlake in “The Social Network”) and the Russian Internet investor Yuri Milner. Moskovitz, 26, is eight days younger than his former college roommate Zuckerberg, making him the world’s youngest billionaire.

The frenzy among big investors for all things social pushed up private market values of online gaming outfit Zynga and online group-buying site Groupon, creating two more new billionaires, Mark Pincus (who taught people to farm on Facebook) and Eric Lefkofsky (who was Groupon’s lead investor). Other notable American newcomers include Do Won and Jin Sook Chang, the cofounders of Forever21, and Chris Cline, who owns 3 billion tons of coal reserves, mostly in Illinois. Why do we spend so much time counting other people’s money? Because these moguls have the power to shape our world. Telecom billionaire turned prime minister Najib Mikati is keeping Lebanon’s government together. Ernesto Bertarelli, who lost the America’s Cup to Larry Ellison last year, is now focusing on saving the oceans from mass extinction. Gates and Buffett have already traveled to three continents working to change giving practices among the ultra-rich.

Where their inspiration leads, we will follow. A note on methodology: More than 50 reporters in 13 countries worked on compiling the list this year, valuing individuals’ public holdings, private companies, real estate, yachts, art and cash. Net worths were locked in using stock prices and exchange rates from Feb. 14.

The world’s richest person for a second year in a row, the Mexican telecom mogul is also the year’s biggest gainer, having added $20.5 billion to his fortune and widened the gap between him and No. 2, Microsoft cofounder Bill Gates, to $18 billion. A 19% rise in the Mexican stock market, a stronger peso, and successful mining and real estate spinoffs from conglomerate Grupo Carso all contributed to the astonishing increase. He also merged his fixed-line telecom company into America Movil, Latin America’s largest wireless carrier; the Slim family stake in that holding accounts for 62% of his net worth. He has other holdings in retailer Saks and the New York Times. Recently unveiled a new building for his Soumaya Museum, which houses his vast art collection. It is open to the public for free.

Microsoft mogul, futurist and America’s richest person has, with help from billionaire buddy Warren Buffett, convinced nearly 60 of the world’s wealthiest to sign his “Giving Pledge,” promising to donate the majority of their wealth to charity either during their lifetime or after death. He is no longer the planet’s richest person, but that’s because he’s given away $30 billion to his foundation. The Gates Foundation, the world’s most influential charity, tackles tuberculosis and polio and funds famine-resistant crops to fight hunger. He is calling for a higher sense of urgency in AIDS vaccine development and also pushing for better tools to rate teacher performance. Gates holds 70% of his wealth in investment fund Cascade, dabbling in everything from autos to hedge funds to Mexican Coke bottler Femsa; the rest of his wealth is held in Microsoft stock.
