Men’s Luxury Jewelry for the Holidays

Diamond Mens Ring

by Jewelry World

Every holiday season or birthday that passes, you may become more and more at a loss as to what you can get for the favorite men you have in your life. Whether you only have your dad to buy for or even if you have several brothers, a husband, nephews and even sons of your own, mens luxury jewelry may be the perfect solution for you on the next gift giving occasion.

If the men in your life don’t already wear particular types of jewelry, you might try asking them directly or asking someone else close to them for advice if your gift is intended as a surprise.

Mens Diamond Tie Stud

You may have a brother turning 40 or 50 years old and want to get him a gold chain but are not sure if he’d wear it. Ask his wife to make sure you don’t get him a gift that he’ll appreciate but never use.

Luxury men’s jewelry doesn’t have to be completely expensive. That said, quality metals and gems will possibly require an investment. Make sure when you purchase jewelry that you are comfortable with the seller’s customer service and reputation for providing quality, authentic jewelry. If you don’t want to spend a lot of money, you can still get jewelry that looks expensive because it is made from a much less expensive material. Look around at various market listings before you purchase a particular item so you can determine if it is in line with the going rate.

Abu Dhabi’s Emirates Palace hotel displays world’s most Expensive Christmas Tree‎

A hotel in the United Arab Emirates has unveiled what it says is the world’s most expensive Christmas tree.

The 13-meter artificial tree at Abu Dhabi’s Emirates Palace hotel includes diamonds, pearls and sapphires — 181 precious stones in all. Most of the stones are in necklaces and earrings provided by a local jeweler.

Standing 43 feet high, the tree – itself worth $10,000 – has necklaces, bracelets and watches draped over its branches among traditional baubles and lights. The total value of the tree is $11m.

Hotel managers unveiled the pricey tree this week, saying they hope to get it recognized in the Guinness Book of World Records.

The large tree in the hotel’s lobby also includes bows, ball-shaped ornaments, lights and other traditional Christmas tree decorations.

France’s Versailles Palace to host Luxury Hotel

by Relaxnews in Hotels & Resorts at LUXUO

fontaines chateau Versailles 468x312 Frances Versailles palace to host luxury hotelThe Palace of Versailles is to transform one of its satellite buildings into a luxury hotel, paving the way for a series of French projects aimed at exploiting the economic potential of listed buildings while securing their renovation.

The Hotel du Grand Controle is to be converted into a “luxury hotel,” Jean-Jacques Aillagon, president of the Chateau de Versailles, said Tuesday.

The opening of the 23-bedroom establishment, in which some rooms will look out onto the “Orangerie”, the chateau’s elaborate greenhouse, is planned for late 2011. The palace deemed one of the crowning achievements of 18th-century French art, is one of Europe’s most popular tourist attractions.

Versailles palace Orangerie 468x312 Frances Versailles palace to host luxury hotelFamed for its Hall of Mirrors and home to the French court from 1682, the complex was transformed and expanded under the Sun King Louis XIV into a monument to royal grandeur and absolutism. It remained the official seat of power until the French Revolution in 1789, when Marie-Antoinette fled the palace via a secret passage. A concession has been granted to the Belgian company Ivy International SA, which is to renovate and develop the satellite building, over 30 years.

Built in the 1680s by the architect Jules Hardouin-Mansart, the 1,700 square-metre (18,000 square-feet) Hotel du Grand Controle served as an officers’ mess until 2006. “This building was given to us in a very dilapidated state,” said Aillagon. “I’ve been given the task of saving it,” he added. Ivy will pay for the renovation works, estimated at 5.5 million euros (7.3 million dollars), which will be led by historic monuments architect-in-chief Frederic Didier. The company will pay Versailles an annual fee to lease the building.

HERMES’s brand new spectacular store in Paris

by CPP-Luxury.com

HERMES storeHermès  new store in Paris opened last month on Rue de Sèvres in a space which used to be home to the Lutetia hotel’s indoor swimming pool. As a reminder of the former pool, Hermes lined up a band of kids in matching swimsuits to greet guests, while on a balcony, great moments in swimming-pool cinema screened on a loop.

The most striking part of the interior design are three giant, nearly 9 meter tall “huts” in latticed ashwood by architect Denis Montel of RDAI. Speaking of the store design, the HERMES artistic director Pierre-Alexis Dumas said “I had a moment of vertigo when I first visited,” Dumas said, “but it was stimulating. I asked myself, how can we turn this into a warm and protective space?” He also added that ”a store has a mission – it has to embellish a neighbourhood, give pleasure to residents and make discover a piece of heritage”.
HERMES, rue de Sevres, ParisThe opening coincides with Hermès’ move into interiors. The store showcases the recent addition of furnishings fabrics, wallpaper, carpets, and the new Jean-Michel Frank par Hermès numbered furniture re-editions. For the first time, the Hermes home collection includes carpets which have been created by American artists Janis Provisor and Brad Davis. Nearly half of the three-level, 700 sqm space is devoted to home, including a flower shop (Baptiste) stocked with exotica like New Zealand coral peonies and lichen branches. There’s a bookstore, too, the Chaîne d’Encre created with Actes Sud with an array of books from architecture, photography, applied arts and horse riding. Le Plongeoir is a tea bar on the balcony, serving  a wide range of infussion teas. HERMES’s brand new store is a statement of creativity which draws impeccably on its heritage. The new opening, which comes amid the major scandal concerning the stake of 17% in Hermes recently acquired by LVMH, demonstrates HERMES is committed to exclusivity and creativity even when it comes to its store concepts. During the scandal, one of HERMES’s arguments against the stake acquired by LVMH was that HERMES does not aim to become a corporate giant with a huge international network such as Louis Vuitton. In reference to the recent scandal concerning the shares acquired by LVMH, Pierre Alexis Dumas said ”Thanks to God, the Earth keep revolving. More than ever, everyone in our company wishes to express their uniqueness, character and soul. The opening of the Pool (the new store) has been planned for a year and nothing could not have separated us from our wishes, from this fantasy and the Hermes authenticity. If we are so coveted, it is because we are desirable, extremely desirable”.

Ralph Lauren is 2010 Luxury Marketer of the Year

By Peter Finocchiaro at LuxuryDaily

Polo Ralph Lauren Corp. has been named Luxury Marketer of the Year, the most prestigious award in luxury marketing.

The New York-based lifestyle brand beat out runner-up Louis Vuitton and third-place finisher Burberry for the top honor. The apparel-to-furnishings group earned the accolade on the strength of an unparalleled multichannel strategy that blazed new trails in the world of interactive marketing while continuing its rich and distinct brand story in print and beyond – all leading to double-digit growth in 2010.

“Creating a luxury brand is one thing, but maintaining its marketing aura across good times and bad, traditional media and new, takes genius and Ralph Lauren,” said Mickey Alam Khan, editor in chief of Luxury Daily, New York. “Ralph Lauren’s marketing has become a byword for excellence with consistent creative messaging and effective call to action in an era where luxury brands struggle to retain their mystique,” he said. “Marketing well done is all about stoking desire from turn of page, click of mouse, tap of phone or opening of mail. “The pony gets it in a gallop.”Ralph Lauren was named 2009 Mobile Marketer of the Year, itself the most prestigious honor in mobile marketing (see story).

2011 Porsche Cayenne Hybrid: Prius of Porsches

by Lawrence Ulrich at TheNewYorkTimes

I was flying down a steep hillside when I glanced at the instruments and realized what I had achieved: a new personal best in a Porsche. But this wasn’t the usual Porsche milestone, of some heroic track speed. Instead, I’d reached a more nerdy goal, recording a 30 miles per gallon highway average. What’s more, that notable mileage was reached by a charging-rhino S.U.V., the Cayenne, that usually ranks among the most greedily consumptive Porsches. Not so, however, with the new Cayenne S Hybrid.

Click here to view TheNewYorkTimes Slide Show

In redesigning its Cayenne lineup for 2011, Porsche has tackled seemingly every shortcoming of an S.U.V. that mortified many of the company’s loyalists when it arrived in 2001. As with many S.U.V.’s born in that era of hyper-masculine S.U.V.’s, the Porsche was burdened with macho off-road hardware that few owners used. With pavement-focused crossovers in their infancy, Porsche was also among companies that seemed unsure of what one was supposed to look like, and seemed unable to abandon truckish design tropes. The first Cayenne was also stingy on luxury, with a flat buckboard of a back seat that seemed at odds with prices that could top $100,000.

Yet between its class-busting performance, and the Porsche crest on the hood, the Cayenne became Porsche’s best-selling model around the world and a profit generator that helped to sustain the company.
