Montezemolo, Chairman of Ferrari “Today a dream comes true” – Ferrari World Abu Dhabi

Yas Marina, 27 October – Ferrari World Abu Dhabi, the first ever theme park dedicated to the Prancing Horse, was presented this afternoon as a preview exclusively to the international press. Today’s planned soft opening to the public was put back to a future date to be decided in sign of mourning for the passing away of Sheik Saqr bin Mohammed Al-Qasimi, Emir of Ras al-Khaimah.

“First of all I would like, on behalf of both myself and everyone at Ferrari, to express our sincere condolences to the government and the population of the United Arab Emirates for their tragic loss,” – said the Chairman of Ferrari, Luca di Montezemolo. “Then I would like to thank the nation and all those who made it possible to make this dream – a unique theme park dedicated to the world of Ferrari – a reality. Congratulations to everyone involved.”

“The park just 4 years ago was a project, an idea, maybe even a too ambitious idea, is now a fantastic reality. Everyone at Ferrari is grateful to the people who have worked without rest for the last two years to make it happen.
Abu Dhabi is a great city that constantly looks to the future, and we are very proud of our partners who share with Ferrari the same passion, the same vision, the same will to go beyond.
This park combines innovative technology and tradition, it is dedicated not only to Ferrari fans and car enthusiastic, but to the whole family; there are attractions for kids, men and women. It has also the real touch of Ferrari: how things really are for us, with our exclusive GT road cars and racing cars, but also our history and our cultural background. Something else that was crucial for us was for the Park to be a symbol, built actively on the heritage that Italy represents for the world. We are pleased to see that all this has become reality, and that the excitement – like the roller coaster that makes you feel like a Formula One driver – goes hand-in-hand with messages that perfectly combine having a good time with the reality represented by the passion for Ferrari.
We also like to think that this Ferrari Theme park can be a small contribution to reinforcing the bridge between our two cultures.
And finally I would like to express my personal thanks to His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE and Ruler of Abu Dhabi, and to His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi; for their guidance and support. Warm thanks are also due to Khaldoon Al Mubarak, and to Ahmed Ali Al Sayegh, for their invaluable support.”

WHY – Villa yacht by Hermes

WHY Wally-Hermès Yachts is the new company created by french luxury brand Hermès and Monaco based yacht maker Wally, dedicated to a new lifestyle of living on the sea.

Designing a boat with a new concept is not an utopia, at every turn the yacht offers maximum space, durability and cutting-edge technologies, the exchange with Wally and Hermès was rooted deeply in terms of know how and sharing the same philosophy of this new concept.

Hermès was involved in every step of the process from concept to realization, considering both the outside and inside were just one of the many things. as always just like with all their designs they paid special attention to detail, developing the overall architecture of the vessel evaluating issues of speed and spaciousness.

The boat is contained in a triangular hull measuring 58m x 38m. there is no superstructure. The initial idea of this hull was confirmed by the ramform hull which they discovered, redesigned and adapted to fit the concept of the wheel house that emerges from the silhouette of the ship, the interior of the yacht is fitted out with water resistant buffalo leather using the calpinage technique, the yacht which took years in the making has been tested in Gotebourg, Sweden, in a specialised tank testing facility, to see how it would perform in big seas.
The outcome is that, in full swell, the bow moves a tiny bit and the stern stays completely still. Anchored, the boat creates a totally flat surface behind it, like an olympic-size pool where you can swim in total peace. on the bow, there’s a seawater pool 25 metres long that follows the curve of the bow.

The environmental and ecological advantages are a strong point of the boat WHY. Different sources of energy are managed by a central computer, the yacht is powered using a diesel electric engine. a surface of the photovoltaic
panels which measure approximately 900 square meters provide the solar electricity generated which covers part of what is needed to subsist the boat.

by Marie-Noelle Blessig at Yahoo News

Bernard Arnault's LVMH has taken a 14.2 ...LVMH, the world’s leading luxury retailer, said Saturday it had taken a 14.2 percent stake in Hermes but denied it wanted to take over the French luxury goods firm. The company controlled by French businessman Bernard Arnault said it wanted to boost the stake to 17.1 percent at a total cost of 1.45 billion euros (two billion dollars) but was not seeking even representation on the Hermes board. The move makes LVMH the largest Hermes shareholder after the heirs to the family share of around 70 percent.

There has been speculation about the future of Hermes, known for its fine leather goods and silk scarves, since the death in May of its charismatic head Jean-Louis Dumas. In a statement LVMH said that it holds 15,016,000 shares of Hermes International, with the objective “to be a long-term shareholder of Hermes and to contribute to the preservation of the family and French attributes which are at the heart of the global success of this iconic brand.”

Wealthy Individuals Use Social Media More Than Most Americans

by SEI Quick Poll

A new Quick Poll from SEI (NASDAQ: SEIC) today showed that 70 percent of high-net-worth individuals surveyed are users of Facebook and other social media sites. That’s considerably more than the number of daily social media users among the general populace. According to an August, 2010 report from the Pew Research Center, titled Older Adults and Social Media, 61 percent of Americans ages 18 and over have used a social networking site. However, the Quick Poll results make it clear that wealthy individuals have a hard time squeezing in their social media time – just 17.4 percent of respondents said they use social media on a daily basis. While 38 percent of those surveyed by Pew had used a social networking site in the previous 24 hours.

Ralph Lauren Will Show You His Cars–For $150,000

By Robert Frank at WSJ Blogs - The Wealth Report

Ralph Lauren and his 1936 Bugatti

Ralph Lauren’s “Pink Pony” online charity auction has all kinds of unusual items up for bid.

You can buy a Teepee inspired by the RL Ranch (current bid: $3,750). You can get modeling and catwalk tips from the supermodel Valentina (current bid: $1,000). Or you can have your dog (or your child) star in a Ralph Lauren ad (current bids $2,500 and $9,250, respectively). All proceeds go to fund the fight against cancer. Yet one item on the list stands out as a bit, well, pricey.

That would be the tour of Ralph Lauren’s car collection. The estimate for the tour is $150,000. That’s right, $150,000 to look at–not to own–some vintage cars. Oh, you also get a book. Granted, it is an impressive collection. He owns vintage Ferraris, Porsches and a 1936 Bugatti Atlantic, which is valued at north of $30 million. As the bidding description states, “You and a friend will receive a tour of this extraordinary private collection of classic cars given by Ralph Lauren himself.” The day ends with a ride in the 1936 Bugatti. The winner also get a signed copy of “Speed, Style, and Beauty: Cars from the Ralph Lauren Collection.”

I love cars as much as the next guy (and maybe more). Having some quality car-talk time with Ralph would be an experience to remember. But for $150,000? For that amount, I think I would rather buy my own Porsche or Ferrari. This is, however, for a cause, and someone may well hit the estimate. Even if they don’t, the tour is likely to raise a large chunk of change. So far there have been four bidders and the top bid is $42,500. How much would you pay for a tour of Mr. Lauren’s cars?
